Korea, India, Kazakhstan and Iran win spots for 2022 World Games

Four countries added quota places for the compound competitions at the 2022 World Games during the recent Asian Championships, which acted as the continental qualifier for next summer’s event in the USA.

Korea and India collected invitations for both the men’s and women’s tournaments, augmenting their quotas to the full four.

Both nations had already won some spots at the world championships.

Kazakhstan added a men’s ticket, courtesy bronze medallist Sergey Khristich, and Geesa Bybordy collected a women’s for Iran with fifth.

The compound events at the World Games were moved to the discipline of target archery in 2013; recurve and barebow archers continue to compete in field archery. Asian archers climbed the podium for the first-ever time at the World Games in 2017.

Japan’s Wataru Oonuki finished third in the recurve men’s field archery event four years ago in Wroclaw, while Iran’s Esmaeil Ebadi was runner-up in the compound men’s target archery competition.

Korean archers are set to make their World Games debut next year in Birmingham.

The remaining eight quota places for the event are set to be distributed on the final world ranking list of 2021.
