Uzbekistan qualifies first Olympic archery quota, 28 nations with spots

Ziyodakhon Abdusattorova qualifies Uzbekistan a quota place for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Twenty-eight countries have qualified at least one quota place for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games with 59 awarded in total after a week of continental qualification tournaments in Africa (Tunisia) and Asia (Bangkok).

One first-time nation has secured a ticket so far.

Uzbekistan’s Ziyodakhon Abdusattorova won a recurve women’s quota place with a near-dead-centre tiebreak arrow in the semifinals of the Asian continental qualifier on Saturday, beating Iran’s Mobina Fallah to the final, where she would eventually finish second.

(Two places per gender were available at the individual qualifier in Bangkok.)

“It’s not only for me, it’s for all of our team in Uzbekistan and I’m very, very happy,” she said afterwards. “It means a lot and I can’t fully describe my feelings. I’m proud we can return home, with a victory, to our family. We fulfilled our mission and we’re very happy about it.”

Only two nations – Korea and host France – have two full team places (so six individual quota spots) secured at this stage.

One Olympic qualifying event remains on the schedule in 2023. The Pacific Games in late-November in the Solomon Islands will award two tickets (one man and one woman) to the winner of the mixed team event only.

The process will then resume in spring 2024, with the last continental qualifiers in Oceania (March), the Americas (April) and Europe (May), before the final qualification tournament, which is being held ahead of the third stage of the 2024 Hyundai Archery World Cup in Antalya, Türkiye.
