Field event line-up for Birmingham 2022 World Games decided at Europeans

Cesar Vera Bringas shoots at the qualifier for the Birmingham 2022 World Games.

The roster of countries that will compete in the field archery competitions at the upcoming World Games in Birmingham, which were delayed one year into 2021, was decided in a special qualifier at the European championships in Porec.

Unlike the rest of that event, this competition was open internationally.

Italy’s Max Mandia, British Olympian Bryony Pitman, Spain’s Cesar Vera and the barebow women’s silver medallist at the last World Games, Tina Gutman, topped the four fields.

Nineteen countries won spots in total, bringing the total that will compete in Birmingham to 20, with Japan’s Wataru Oonuki having already secured a place by winning the last world field championships (held in Cortina in 2018).

Archers in Porec were winning spots for their countries – and it will be up to national teams to decide which athletes fill the places next summer.

The field archery competition at the World Games features events for recurve and barebow archers, while compound archers compete in the discipline of target archery. Qualification for the target events is ongoing.
