I dream to be World Archery Champion, says Linda Ochoa-Anderson

Born in Guadalajara, in the west of Mexico, compound woman Linda Ochoa-Anderson shoots for the home nation at the 2017 World Archery Championships taking place in Mexico City on 15-22 October.

“[These World Championships] means a lot. Since 2015 when we were awarded the event, we’ve been working hard for these championships,” said Linda. “I like to shoot at home, with my people, my family and share these moments with them.”

At her 30 years of age, and having dedicated about 20 of those to archery, Linda has collected a huge medal haul.  

A silver at the World Field Championships in Dublin in 2016, a gold with the Mexican team at the 2014 World Indoor Championships in Nimes and a bronze at the Las Vegas 2012 world indoors stand out as her biggest achievements.

The next one on the list? “Be World Archery Champion,” she said.

“My dream is to become a World Champion. I think I’m at the best moment of my career and I believe everything happens for a reason no matter the age you have. It’s all about the moment.”

Working toward her big dream, Linda, who moved to Salt Lake City after marrying USA compound man Steve Anderson, had to change her training routine and work on trusting herself more. Something, she said, that has had a positive impact on her results.

“My preparation changed a lot because I now train alone. My coach sends me the training plan that I have to follow via email, but it’s a bit difficult to not have someone behind the line as I was used to,” she explained.

Archery has given Linda confidence.

“I have grown up as a person. I have always been very distrustful of myself and I was embarrassed of everything. Now, I consider myself secure, with confidence and that I can achieve anything I want,” she said.

Smiley, known to be kind and a highly motivational teammate, Linda said that to climb the podium on home turf would be incredible.

“I want to win. I want to win a medal with the team, individually or in mixed team, any,” she said. “I want to be on the podium!”

The top seed shoots her elimination matches in Mexico City on 19 October and, if she makes it, the finals on 21 October.
