Mariia Vinogradova: During competition, I focus on my shot

Want to see inside the mind of an international archery athlete? We’ll be asking some of the world’s best for advice, expertise and an idea of their approach to the sport.

This time, 2015 Archery World Cup Final silver medallist Mariia Vinogradova answers our questions…

1. What makes great archers?

Great archers are very good athletes who can surpass themselves and show excellent results – but most importantly who follow moral principles and ethical standards.

2. What’s the best way to improve?

Above all, believe in yourself, in your strength, and enjoy shooting.

3. Compare training and competition

In training, you need to work more on your technique. During a competition it's very important to focus on the shot – work for the hit, not for the 10.

In competition, I can see how other people shoot and reach their results, and it's interesting to try to compete with them. Of course I want to win, but it's even more important to win against a strong opponent with a good result. This way you see the result of training.

4. Who’s your favourite person to shoot with?

I like shooting with Albina Loginova, we've had a lot of interesting matches.

5. How do you relax and reboot energy?

I like active relaxation like ice skating or cycling, but also sit in a quiet place to read a book. To take time off I look for positive emotions and energies from my coaches, relatives and friends.

6. Your TOP NUTRITION TIP?

I like sweets…
