Kaufhold exits as all six Koreans make last sixteen on final day of qualification

The world number one Casey Kaufhold was the highest profile exit from the individual women’s bracket on the last day of individual qualifications at Paris 2024.  

The USA archer won her first match against Guinea’s Sylla Fatoumata, but lost to Chinese Taipei’s triple Olympian Lei Chien-Ying, in a nervous encounter.

“Of course, anyone can shoot well at any time, but she’s amazing,” said Kaufhold. “She’s a previous world champion. She just shot a little bit better than I did and that’s okay.” 

“It’s important to take what I learned from today and put it into the mixed team on Friday. I’m looking forward to tomorrow. I’m hoping to put on a good show.”

The brackets are now set for the women’s finals on Saturday and the men’s finals on Sunday, each featuring the last 16 archers left in the competition.

On a long, hot and humid day of competition in Paris which saw rain hit the field more than once, first time Olympians to make the last 16 today included Baptiste Addis, Yan Wang, Jeon Hunyoung, Lim Sihyeon, Santiago Arcila, Noda Satsuki, Elif Gokkir and Berkim Tumer. 

All six of the Korean squad have now made it through to the last 16 of the individual qualification.
