Hyundai Archery World Cup broadcast hours double in 2018

The worldwide broadcast time of live, delayed and highlight footage of the Hyundai Archery World Cup circuit reached over 600 hours in 2018, including data from an independent study, close to doubling the amount across the previous season.

  • Over 600 hours of footage broadcast in 2018.
  • European Championships seen live by three-plus-million.
  • First international television programme for world field.

Long-time partner Eurosport continued to provide exposure – as did NBC via the Olympic Channel linear and online platforms, and NBCSN.

A new three-year deal with KBS, which came into effect mid-season, produced strong figures in Korea – including a single news broadcast from the World Cup Final that reached approximately 15% of the adult population of the country.

This was supplemented by additional broadcasters in key markets, such as Marca Claro in Mexico, Sony TEN in India, TRT in Turkey, BBC in the UK, and Eleven in Chinese Taipei, plus an extensive network of highlights takers.

Claro took advantage of the new Spanish-language programming introduced at the start of 2018.

In addition to the World Cup circuit, Eurosport attracted three-plus-million people to live footage from the 2018 European Archery Championships in Legnica, Poland and showcased highlights of the 2018 World Archery Field Championships in Cortina, Italy.

World Archery secretary general Tom Dielen said: “Our combined digital and linear broadcast strategy is designed to maximise the exposure of Hyundai Archery World Cup events, while developing relationships with established broadcasters in key markets.”

“We continue to experiment with localising content for those territories across our products – from social media to television news, and live or highlight broadcasters – making archery a more easily accessible sport to enjoy worldwide.”
