Sonnichsen, Hansen awarded Longines Prizes for Precision

Danish archers Stephan Hansen and Sarah Sonnichsen were each awarded the Longines Prize for Precision for 2017, presented to the most consistent athletes with the highest number of 10s shot during qualification and elimination in the Hyundai Archery World Cup season.

While neither managed to win gold at the Final in Rome, both were ranked first arriving at the season-ending event.

Along with a watch, Hansen and Sonnichsen also received a 5,000 CHF cash prize, courtesy of Longines, World Archery’s timing and scoring provider, and title sponsor of the Prize.

“When you win it, it means you've been shooting good the entire season,” said Sonnichsen, who had the award locked down before shooting any arrows in Rome.

“And that's kinda nice. It's like, I know I didn't win the World Cup Final but I know I've done something right.”

Her season total was 442 10s.

Hansen, after receiving the men’s Prize with 468 10s, followed closely by Steve Anderson on 443, said, “It’s been a good season and I'm really happy with my scores. I’m really happy that I could control my nerves and control everything.”

Both Hansen and Sonnichsen won the Longines Prize for Precision for the first time.

The all-time record holder for the award, given to compound and recurve archers in alternating years, is Brady Ellison, who won it for a fourth time in 2016.

The 2017 Hyundai Archery World Cup Final took place on 2/3 September in Rome, Italy
