Pan American Championships and Olympic qualifier in Monterrey cancelled due to COVID-19
World Archery Americas and the Mexican Archery Federation have cancelled the 2020 Pan and Para Pan American Championships on the advice of local health authorities. The championships were due to be held next week in Monterrey.
The event was a continental qualification tournament for this summer’s Olympic and Paralympic Games. It is the first archery event with direct quota implications for Tokyo 2020 to be affected by the worldwide outbreak of COVID-19.
The Pan American Championships are expected to be rescheduled in Monterrey when the situation has improved.
World Archery’s executive committee is currently assessing the Olympic and Paralympic qualification procedures in light of this cancellation – and the evolving situation with the Oceania Championships.
Scheduled to run in the first week of April in Fiji and also an Olympic qualifying event, it is expected to be cancelled as well.
