Pan Am Games bring number of countries qualified for archery at Tokyo 2020 to 27

Archers from Brazil, Canada, Colombia and the USA won Olympic quota places at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, bringing the total number of countries qualified for the archery competitions at Tokyo 2020 to 27.

The USA already had one men’s spot but added a women’s place in Lima by taking mixed team gold. Brazil, Canada and Colombia were new qualifiers.

Canadian three-time Olympian Crispin Duenas and Marcus D’Almeida of Brazil secured quotas in the men’s individual competition; Colombian archer Ana Maria Rendon won the available women’s place.

Next spring’s Pan American Championships will award a further three places per gender to the Games. These are the last spots reserved solely for archers from the continent, although there will still be the opportunity to collect places at the final team and individual qualification tournament that will be held as part of the third stage of the 2020 Hyundai Archery World Cup in Berlin, Germany.

Four of the five continental Games that contribute to the Olympic qualification procedure have now taken place. The African Games, which is scheduled for the end of this month in Rabat, Morocco, is the last that remains.

There will be two spaces available in Rabat, one men’s and one women’s, awarded to the winning mixed team. The gold medallist will be the first country from Africa to qualify for the archery competitions at Tokyo 2020.
