New athletes committee elected during 2019 Hyundai World Archery Championships
Sjef van den Berg, Crystal Gauvin, Reo Wilde and So Chaewon were elected as members of World Archery’s athletes’ committee during the 2019 Hyundai World Archery Championships in ’s-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands.
They join Naomi Folkard, the field archery representative, who was elected in 2016.
Folkard has been named chair, which is a position that also sits on World Archery’s executive board. She takes over from long-time committee chairperson Viktoriya Koval. Chaewon will act as deputy chair.
Following a motion recently passed at congress, future elections will be staggered rather than all posts becoming available at the same event. To achieve this, the length these recently elected members will remain on the committee will differ.
Sjef van den Berg and Crystal Gauvin will serve four-year terms until the Hyundai World Archery Championships in 2023. Reo Wilde and So Chaewon will serve until the worlds in 2021.
Sjef, Crystal and Chaewon were elected unopposed and are all first-time members of the committee.
The five-person athletes’ committee consists of representatives from each of the four world championship disciplines – recurve men, recurve women, compound men and compound women – and one field archery representative.
Members are elected by athletes at the world championships. Voting this year took place in the athlete restaurant during practice.
The committee represents the interests of athletes within the governance of the international federation.
