About

Sjef van den Berg is a recurve archer from the Netherlands who finished fourth at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Born in Heeswijk-Dinther, Sjef took up archery at the age of four and made his international debut in 2010. He spent the majority of his 20s ranked within the top 10 in the world. During the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, a blood vessel burst in his eye and he received significant news coverage for its unusual appearance.

Sjef suffers from cluster headaches and migraines induced by the stress of competing and has said he will retire from the sport following the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
