Bangladesh Gen Sec receives sports award
The General Secretary of Bangladesh’s national archery federation, Kazi Rajib Uddin Ahmed Chapol, was among them.
The award ceremony took place on 4 September 2016 at Osmani Memorial Hall in Dhaka, where 32 people were honoured for outstanding contributions to the development of sport.
Kazi Rajib Uddin Ahmed Chapol received the award for establishing archery nationwide through national and international events, coaching and judging courses, and the implementation of a talent identification programme within Bangladesh.
“This award is also a triumph of the archery world,” he said. “With this award, I think my duties have been raised more. I promise to continue to develop archery.”
Every year, Bangladesh’s Ministry for Youth and Sports selects high-profile sportsmen and sports organisers to receive National Sports Awards. A total of 188 sports personalities so far have been given the award.
Chapol was nominated in 2012 and received the prize in 2016. He is the youngest sport organiser recipient of the award in Bangladesh.
Chapol is currently General Secretary of the Bangladesh Archery Federation, Executive Board Member of World Archery Asia, Secretary General of South Asian Archery Federation, Executive Board Member of Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation and Treasurer of NOC Bangladesh.
He met World Archery President Jim Easton at the Sydney 2000 Olympics, and fell in love with archery. Since then, Chapol has been committed to developing the sport in his home country.
After accepting his award, Chapol expressed his thanks to Jim Easton for getting him involved in archery.
