Para archer Sarti called up to Italian team for world indoors
The Italian archery team for the World Archery Indoor Championships in Turkey from 1 to 6 March 2016 was announced on 15 February.
Among the athletes chosen to represent Italy, para world champion Eleonora Sarti – in her first call-up to the national able-bodied and open team. Already qualified for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, she was substitute for the third stage of the Archery World Cup in Wroclaw, Poland in 2015.
In Ankara in 2016, she will compete for the international first team, a huge milestone for her and only the second Paralympic female athlete to shoot on both para and able-bodied squads in Italy.
Paola Fantato participated in both the 1996 Olympics and Paralympics.
Alberto Simonelli, another compound para archer, will stay home as men’s reserve for the 2016 World Archery Indoor Championships.
On the recurve team: Massimiliano Mandia, Luca Melotto and Marco Morello represent the men, Guendalina Sartori, Elena Tonetta and Claudia Mandia the women.
World indoor champion Sergio Pagni, Luigi Dragoni and Michele Nencioni defend Italian colours in the compound men’s competition, while Eleonora Sarti will be joined by Laura Longo and Irene Franchini in the women’s, while Anastasia Anastasio will stay home as reserve.
