Mexico announces host nation athletes for World Cup Final

Mexico added a fifth space to the four it receives automatically as the host nation of the Archery World Cup, in the compound women’s competition. Both Linda Ochoa and Stephanie Sarai Salinas qualified across the circuit in the World Cup rankings, ending the season in third and fourth, respectively.

The top seven athletes in each division qualify for the Final.

Alejandra Valencia was selected by the nation as Mexico’s highest-ranked recurve woman, in 14th on 18 points, four points ahead of Olympic silver medallist Aida Roman. Valencia picked up a top-eight in Antalya and top-16 in Medellin. The same was true for Mario Cardoso, 15th in the compound men’s rankings and top for the team.

All three Mexican recurve men that registered points finishes in 2015 made the third round – the first in which points are won – once.

Juan Rene Serrano, Luis Velez and Luis Alvarez were invited to a selection shoot-off for the recurve men’s host nation place at Mexico City 2015, which Alvarez won.

The three host representatives take the eighth seed in the competition and will face the top qualifier in their first match of the event, which is being held on 24/25 October 2015 in the Zócalo, in the centre of the Mexican capital. Ochoa and Salinas retain their qualifying seeds.
