6 March 2009 - Justyna MOSPINEK (POL): “I just want to enjoy my shooting”
Lausanne
Justyna MOSPINEK (POL): “I just want to enjoy my shooting” Rzeszow (POL) – 6 March 2009 We caught up with Justyna MOSPINEK (POL), winner of the World Cup Final 2008 in Lausanne. This great victory did not change her smile nor did it put extra pressure on her for these world championships in Poland. Interview with a top archer who truly wants to enjoy her sport! Justyna, you had a superb victory to conclude the 2008 season. You beat no less than PARK Sung-Hyun (KOR) and YUN Ok-Hee (KOR) who just had won two medals in the Olympic Games. What do you remember of this Final? After some disappointing Olympic Games, I went back home to Zgierz near the centre of Poland. I took time for myself and trained at my local club with my personal coach. I had the chance to refocus. Then I came to Lausanne with a fresh mind and lot of motivation. I knew it was a great challenge to measure up with these two stars in archery and I felt very proud to win this World Cup Final! Back home I had some celebrations with my parents and coaches. We enjoyed some champagne. However, I quickly had to go back to studies as I had my master exam to become a physical therapist in October. You mentioned that the Olympic Games were indeed disappointing for you. What happened there? I was not in my best shape last August. I think nobody in the team was. It was a harassing season and we battled for six months. The team peaked early with a 2nd place at the World Cup in Porec and a European title. However, we had to internally battle until the World Cup in Boe to know who were going to the Olympic Games. Although, it was the three regular girls who qualified at the end, I think we were all tired by the time we arrived in Beijing. The conditions in China were also different than during the Test Event one year before when I ranked 2nd. It was a bit hotter, the wind was a bit trickier, and there were more media pressure. I was 19th in the qualifications and I played an early match against a Japanese opponent. Quite simply, I could not get ready for the match. Before I knew it, the match was over and we both shot terribly. However, she beat me 103-101. About the team match against France, they were also readier than we were. We played a good match with just some bad arrows. However, the French team seemed on a mission. They were ready for this event, they shot well and at the end they won the bronze medal. Now we are in Rzeszow, in your country, for the Indoor World Championships. How do you feel about it? I actually don’t feel as strong indoor as outdoor. Practice is OK but during competitions I don’t feel as confident. I do some mistakes and then I over-analyse them. Here in Rzeszow, I just would like to shoot strong and simple, without too much thinking. I don’t set any concrete objectives. I just want to be happy with the way I shoot. Does it make any difference for you to shoot at home? It makes things a bit easier that everybody speaks Polish, but actually we feel good anywhere we go to participate in world championships. We feel welcomed everywhere. What I like is that here we are able to show Poland to the rest of the world. It’s also the opportunity to get archery on the Polish national television. How did you prepare? We arrived last Tuesday in Kielnarowa, just 20 kilometres from here. We have had a training camp and we actually stay there during the competition. Generally speaking, we trained very hard last year for the Olympic Games and this year I’ll try to get a bit more balanced. I actually started working as a physical therapist half-time. It still allows me to train my shooting for 3-4 hours every day and I also try to do some swimming. Every month, we meet for a training camp with the national team (about 15-20 archers). There we also shoot for 3-4 hours a day and we do some other activities such as jogging, basketball or volleyball. Looking ahead what do you expect for the 2009 season? As I said, I want to relax a bit and really enjoy my shooting. Later during the season, we will see how we prepare exactly for the outdoor world championships in Ulsan. OK, thank you Justyna and good luck! Didier MIEVILLE FITA Communication
