23 November 2007 - Interview with Lilia STEPANOVA, the Contortionist

Interview with Lilia STEPANOVA, the Contortionist Dubai – 23 November 2007  On Saturday, the show will not only be made by the top level archers. The famous Lilia Stepanova, the woman who shoots a bow with her feet, will make her unique exhibition to cheer up the crowd. We caught up with her after a live rehearsal tonight.   Lilia, how came the idea to shoot a bow with your feet? I have been doing gymnastics, acrobatics since I was a three or four years old. Then my parents thought that I should be doing something different like shooting a bow with my feet! After some time of practice for fun, I started to make shows, especially during half-time of NBA matches. I made some TV shows such as America’s got talent, The View or on ESPN. I have been doing it since I was 13-14 years old.   Tell us a bit more about you? You seem to cheer the audience up just with your smile? At least I try, I enjoy the show! I come originally from Moldova, a little state in Eastern Europe, and moved to the USA when I was nine. I speak three languages, Romanian, Russian, and English. I did competitive gymnastics for two years, before I started to make the shows and then I moved to Aruba in the Caribbean Islands for one year.   Do you like Dubai? This place is so gorgeous that I am thinking I want to live here! It’s my first time in Dubai and although I have travelled a lot, it’s my favourite place. I am falling in love with it!   How do you see your show evolve in the future? Well, I am glad I am meeting some experts in archery here. I definitely would like to fine-tune my bow and have a more powerful one. Then I could shoot some longer distance with my feet. First of all, I still want to entertain the people, vary a bit the sequence and the contortions in my show and… hit the bull’s eye!   Didier Miéville FITA Communication
