Elisabetta Mijno seeds top in Nimes with new para world record
Paralympic gold medallist Elisabetta Mijno shot 593 points during qualifying at the Nîmes Archery Tournament to seed top in the recurve women’s (able-bodied) event and increase her own para archery world record by three.
Brady Ellison (597) topped the recurve men’s field for the fourth time in his career at this event, while Abhishek Verma (599), Alejandra Usquiano and Ella Gibson (both 595) were the highest-scoring compounders over the 60-arrow 18-metre round.
Nîmes is the fourth event on this season’s Indoor Archery World Series – and the first in the top tier, offering 1000 ranking points towards qualification for the circuit finale in Las Vegas.
That event includes recurve and compound championship categories – but there were also barebow competitions this weekend in the south of France, decided this afernoon and won by Monica Puche Garcia and Jerome Souchaud.
Souchard’s final with multiple world champion David Jackson went to a double shoot-off after both men shot a 10 with their first arrows.
“I’ve always wanted to shoot against David,” said Souchaud afterwards. “It’s thanks to his videos that I learned to shoot. So I’m really happy to have won.”
Competition continues in Nîmes with individual eliminations this afternoon and early evening.
