Bosansky breaks 24-year-old mark with 596 points to set maiden career world record
Slovakia’s Jozef Bosansky shot a new compound men’s world record of 596 out of a possible 600 points for the 25-metre qualifying round, subject to ratification, at an international event in Croatia last Sunday.
This score improves by one point the previous best mark which dated back 24 years, held by Dave Cousins since January 2000.
“I still can’t believe it! It was only my second time shooting at that distance,” exclaimed Bosansky. “Honestly, I wasn’t expecting anything like this to happen.”
It’s a first career world record for the reigning European Games Champion.
“I was so nervous all the way up to the last arrow, wondering if I could actually pull it off. But when I made that final shot and it was a good one, the relief and excitement just hit me all at once,” the 48-year-old explained.
“I was unbelievably happy – it’s a feeling I’ll never forget!”
The competition was held in the Croatian town of Varaždin on 24 November and offered a joint tournament at the two indoor distances of 18 and 25 metres.
