Healey shoots 594 to break under-18 18-metre world record
British world number 24 Penny Healey has broken the recurve women’s under-18 world record for the 60-arrow 18-metre qualifying round, subject to ratification, after scoring 594 points during this weekend’s British indoor championships.
It’s one point more than the previous world best set by Casey Kaufhold in 2020.
“I’m ecstatic. It’s been my goal since indoors started again and this was my very last chance to get it,” said Healey. “I changed my mental programme on Thursday and it’s just worked.”
The 17-year-old had a breakout year in 2022, winning the senior Indoor Archery World Series Finals in February before making her debut on the Hyundai Archery World Cup at the season opener just two months later.
She made her first final four at stage three in Paris, eventually finishing fourth.
Healey now owns both the indoor and outdoor qualifying round world records in the recurve women’s under-18 category.
She shot 687 points for the 72-arrow 60-metre format in September to take the outdoor record from its illustrious former owner, reigning Olympic Champion An San.
Healey was also crowned British national indoor champion this weekend.
