DPR Korea withdraws from Olympics, places to be reallocated in Paris

Two individual Olympic quota places have been added to the list of available spots at the final qualification tournament for Tokyo 2020 in Paris later this month following the official withdrawal of DPR Korea from the Games.

The country, which qualified as a mixed team at the 2018 Asian Games, has decided not to send a delegation to the upcoming Olympics.

The DPR Korea quota places, one for a recurve man and one for a recurve woman, will be added to the world pool for the last chance to qualify for the Games in Japan.

The decision to reallocate was made by the International Olympic Committee’s executive board, which said it was “taken now in order to respect the interest of athletes who are next in line and cannot wait any longer”.

There are now 40 countries qualified for the archery competitions at Tokyo 2020.

The final world qualification tournament is scheduled for 18-21 June in Paris, France.

Three men’s teams and three women’s teams will win quota spots – and there are now three men’s individual and two women’s individual invitations available, too.
