Sara Lopez wins second remote international tournament of 2020

Colombian world number two Sara Lopez has won her second remote international competition since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic after beating Fatima Neri of Mexico, 145-144, in the final of the Online Archery Cup of the Americas.

Remote events – both score submission and live matchplay – have become popular during worldwide lockdowns.

“This is a really great tournament and it is very exciting to see so many people helping – and having international archers as commentators,” said Lopez.

The 25-year-old beat Anders Faugstad in the final of the Lockdown Knockout, World Archery’s first remote competition, in May.

Highlights from that event are available to watch on World Archery’s YouTube channel.

The Online Archery Cup of the Americas, inspired by that event, started in August and included a qualification stage held in countries across the continent. Live finals are being streamed on World Archery Americas’ Facebook page.

Competition continues with matches for para compound archers next week, starting with W1 on Monday 21 September.
