World #1 Kang Chae Young to debut for Shibuya RC team at Roma Archery Trophy
World-number-one-ranked recurve woman Kang Chae Young will make her first appearance on the 2020 Indoor Archery World Series representing the Shibuya RC team at the TRUBall/Axcel Roma Archery Trophy on 14-15 December.
Japanese accessory manufacturer Shibuya had entered a compound team before the first event in Macau and followed up with a recurve squad ahead of the GT Open.
Kang is joined in the line-up by Korean compatriot Kim Surin and Dutchman Rick van der Ven. Kim, like Kang, will shoot her first indoor event of the year in Rome. Rick scored Shibuya RC’s first points of the season with a ninth-place finish in Luxembourg.
The Indoor Archery World Series team competition is open to companies, clubs, nations and other groups. It combines team members’ individual results into a team result – which is then used to rank squads over the course of the season.
Shibuya is an archery accessory manufacturer in Japan. Since 1979, the company’s sights have been used to shoot world record scores by archers at home and abroad. The company also produces stabilisers and recently released a recurve tab.
The Shibuya CP team of So Chaewon, Sergio Pagni and Dave Cousins sits in third in the compound team rankings after two tournaments.
Kang Chae Young won two stages of the Hyundai Archery World Cup in 2019 and the circuit final in Moscow. She finished second at the Hyundai World Archery Championships in the summer, won the recent Asian Archery Championships and ends the year ranked number one in the world.
Kim Surin has been shooting the indoor circuit with the travelling Hyundai Mobis professional squad from Korea since 2017. As well as representing her domestic team, she’ll earn ranking points for Shibuya RC this season.
Rick van der Ven finished fourth at the Olympic Games in 2012 and was silver medallist at the World Archery Championships in 2015. He has been a fixture on the Dutch senior squad for a decade.
The 2020 Indoor Archery World Series includes six events. The Macau Open and GT Open were held in November 2019. The series next moves to the TRUBall/Axcel Roma Archery Trophy on 14-15 December.
Teams consist of three athletes shooting either recurve or compound, must be mixed-gender and cost 240 CHF to enter. World Archery has guaranteed a minimum prize purse of 5000 CHF.
Registrations for the team event are being accepted until the Nimes Archery Tournament on 17-19 January 2020. The entry form is available online. Points are accrued from the time of entry and not backdated.
The Indoor Archery World Series is a collection of mass-participation and elite tournaments held in destination cities around the world.
