USA wins 2019 Hyundai Archery World Cup nations award
The USA finished top of the 2019 Hyundai Archery World Cup nations ranking to win the annual nations award for a record seventh time since the introduction of the international circuit in 2006. Korea was second and Turkey came third.
The ranking combines all the points won by a country’s individual athletes and teams over the course of a single Hyundai Archery World Cup season.
Korea won the award in 2018, 2017 and 2016. The USA last finished top of the ranking in 2015 and also won it in 2014, 2012, 2011, 2010 and 2006.
The USA had four individual stage winners – Brady Ellison, Alexis Ruiz, Braden Gellenthien and Jimmy Lutz – who collected five stage wins in 2019. Ellison also took recurve men’s gold at the Hyundai Archery World Cup Final, the fifth circuit title of his career.
Five US teams also topped the podium during the year.
Including the Hyundai Archery World Cup Final, which is not included in the nations ranking, archers from the USA collected 12 gold, seven silver and eight bronze medals in 2019.
The nations ranking has only ever been won by four countries.
The USA has won it seven times, Korea six times and Italy and Russia once each. (Russia was joint top of the nation ranking with Korea in 2007.)
