Russian compound women put 17 points on record at para worlds

Russia’s Yulia Alekseeva, Tatiana Andrievskaia and Stepanida Artakhinova set a new team world record for the compound women’s open ranking round with a combined score of 2032 points during the 2017 World Archery Para Championships in Beijing, China.

The trio seeded 17th, fourth and second individually, and put 17 points on their previous world-best team score.

“This is not enough for us,” Andrievskaia said. “Actually we want to shoot better. We can shoot better. Of course we’re happy, but it’s the medals that really matter.”

Somayeh Abbaspour of Iran pipped Artakhinova to the top individual seed by one, with 692 out of a possible 720 points. Artakhinova was second on 691 and defending World Archery Para Champion Eleonora Sarti of Italy came third with 680.

Zhou Jiamin, gold medallist at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, ranked seventh with 677 points.

“A lot can happen during the competition,” Zhou said. “I remind myself to keep doing my best no matter what.”

The 2017 World Archery Para Championships run 12-17 September in Beijing, China.
