Olympic Channel to broadcast World Cup Final
The Olympic Channel, the new digital platform for fans to experience the power of sport and the Olympic Movement all year round, was launched via mobile apps for Android and iOS devices and at olympicchannel.com on 21 August.
In addition to the on-demand feature and news content, the Channel has announced it will stream more than 35 live international sports events in 2016, including the Hyundai Archery World Cup Final in Odense, Denmark.
The event runs on 25/26 September and features the top-32 ranked recurve and compound athletes of the year.
“Placing a spotlight on Olympic sports and athletes outside of the Games themselves is one of the key priorities of the Olympic Channel,” said Olympic Channel General Manager Mark Parkman.
The event will also be shown live on World Archery’s YouTube Channel and via selected broadcasters worldwide.
“We have received excellent feedback from broadcasters on archery’s coverage at Rio 2016. The Olympic Channel gives an opportunity to build on the wide exposure Rio offered, even though the Olympics are over,” said World Archery Secretary General Tom Dielen.
Archery hit record viewing figures during the 2016 Olympics. In France alone, four million people tuned in to watch JC Valladont in the men’s gold medal match, while seven million watched the women’s final in Germany, which featured Lisa Unruh.
Rights holding broadcasters in Korea and the USA also reported strong early results.
