World Archery extends sincerest condolences to the Turkish Archery Family

The World Archery Family extends its sincerest condolences to the families and individuals affected by the tragic bombings in Turkey’s capital, Ankara, on Saturday 10 October 2015.

The World Archery Indoor Championships are scheduled to be held in the city in March 2016.

World Archery has been in contact with the Turkish Federation and authorities since the incident, which have ensured the federation that at this time there is no additional concern for the safety of athletes attending the event.

As with any major tournament, World Archery will continue to monitor the situation.

World Archery Secretary General Tom Dielen said: “World Archery has hosted more than 30 events in Turkey over the years, of which six were world championships. Ankara has also previously successfully hosted the European Indoor Championships.”

“At none of these events has there ever been an incident with an athlete or anyone else related to the event. The health and safety of the participants are, of course, of paramount concern, but we can also safely play a role in showing that sport can unite in difficult times.”

The Ankara 2016 World Archery Indoor Championships will be further discussed at the upcoming Executive Board meeting, scheduled in December in Istanbul, Turkey.
