3 qualify for 2015 Archery World Cup Final
The third stage of the Archery World Cup came to a close at Wroclaw 2015 and the race for spots at Mexico City started to take shape. Thanks to their own and others’ results in Poland, Linda, Mike and Misun became the three first athletes to qualify for the year’s Archery World Cup Final.
Mike Schloesser – Compound man
Mister Perfect took silver at each of the first two Archery World Cup stages of the season. In Shanghai, he lost the final to France’s Seb Peineau and was bested only by Kim Jongho in the gold medal match of the stage in Antalya.
A top-eight performance – another one, we should say, as Mike is Mister Consistent, too – in Wroclaw, secured a first Archery World Cup Final appearance for the current world number one.
Linda Ochoa – Compound woman
Just 28 years old, Linda has been shooting the Archery World Cup circuit since it began in 2006. In 2015, Ochoa has her most successful season yet.
While she’s climbed the individual podium twice before, taking silvers in Shanghai in ’06 and ’10, in 2015 she won silver in Shanghai and added a bronze medal at the third stage in Wroclaw. She is mathematically certain to qualify for the Archery World Cup Final on home soil – Mexico – though her hometown of Guadalajara is 500-plus kilometres away from the nation’s capital, Mexico City, where the event will be held.
Choi Misun – Recurve woman
New to the world stage in 2015, Misun has an invitation to Mexico City secured as the first of three Korean women that lead the rankings. Choi Misun tops the list thanks to an individual silver from Shanghai, stage one, and her first individual stage win in Antalya.
While it’s technically possible that the two Korean ladies that trail her, Ki Bo Bae and Kang Chae Young, could leapfrog her and leave Misun without a spot (each nation may only have a maximum of two qualifiers in each division), our intel says that the last stage of the Archery World Cup circuit will feature a Korean B-Team. If that’s true, then Misun’s a lock.
What’s next…
The last chance to pick up qualifying points towards the Archery World Cup Final is stage four of the annual circuit in Medellin, which runs from 8 to 13 September 2015. We’ll update the World Cup rankings list live, as each phase passes – so you’ll be able to follow who’s in, who’s out and who’s still got a chance at a coveted finals spot!
