Van Tongeren seals place on Dutch senior team
The Netherlands won recurve men’s team bronze at Baku 2015 but one member of that squad won’t compete at the 2015 World Archery Championships in Copenhagen.
Cadet silver medallist at the 2015 youth worlds Jan van Tongeren is set to replace Mitch Dielemans for the senior event.
London 2012 Olympian Rick van der Ven and Baku individual silver medallist Sjef van den Berg complete the team, with sights firmly set on winning a full quota for Rio after missing out in the team qualification for the last Games.
Rookie Sara Kwaks teams up with Esther Deden and Annemarie der Kinderen – another young squad, in line with recent trends from the Dutch international archery team – to make up the Copenhagen recurve women’s trio.
The same compound men that won Medellin silver and Antalya gold during the 2014 Archery World Cup season will travel to Denmark.
Ruben Bleyendaal missed out on trips to the first two Archery World Cups in 2015 but successfully beat out Thomas van Eil to return, with reigning world champion Mike Schloesser and Peter Elzinga, for Copenhagen.
Bleyendaal, Schloesser and Elzinga also won the European Championships.
Evelien Groeneveld made her international debut in Yankton in 2015, winning cadet silver like teammate van Tongeren. She, Inge van Caspel and Irina Markovic make up the Netherland’s compound women’s team for the worlds.
The Copenhagen 2015 World Archery Championships run from 26 July to 2 August.
