Nicky HUNT (GBR): "If we can get into the Olympics that would be fantastic"
Edinburgh (GBR) – 17 September 2010
She is known as one of world’s most promising archers and has been competing in archery since the age of 11: Nicky HUNT (GBR), who won gold at the Archery World Cup in Shanghai last year is competing at the World Cup Final in Edinburgh (18-19 September) this weekend.
Britain’s Nicky HUNT started competing in 1996 with the age of 11. In 2009 she had a really successful year. In the final of the women’s compound tournament in the Archery World Cup 2010 event in Shanghai Nicky HUNT won the individual gold medal.
How do you like Edinburgh? What do you enjoy about Scotland so far?
It is fantastic. We’ve been here a couple of days already. We had a look around, went up to the castle. I think it is very beautiful.
Sports often include travelling around the world. What do you think about this?
I love it. You know, all the changes. Travelling around the world and see different things. It’s really nice to go into different countries and meet other people as well.
Do you have any favourite places?
I think, just because I’ve had really good experiences in my archery, Croatia has been a fantastic place. I had a really good time.
What does still excite you so much about this sport?
There is a lot to achieve. I can see a lot of different goals: the World Cup stages, the World Cup Finals, the world championships.
What would you do to get better?
I work hard, so I hope it’s going to pay off. I’d like to come home with a medal; and we’ve got a great team and good opportunities. We are just going to go out there and do our best.
How about this weekend? Do you have any expectations?
I don’t think you can really put on a paper how you are going to finish. I think if I can just walk up the stage out there and shoot then I will be happy, however I shoot.
Do you feel more pressure on yourself shooting at home?
I think you get a lot of support really. When you’re in other countries there’s a lot of cheering from the home countries. You just have to use it for your own benefits.
