Chang Hye Jin is a recurve archer from Korea who won the Olympic Games in 2016.
Having started archery at the age of 11, Hye Jin won her first national tournament two years later. She joined the Seoul-based LH professional archery team upon graduating from Daegu university. She did not achieve major international success at a young age and has often talked about the challenges of not making the Korean team for international competitions.
She was not the individual favourite in Rio de Janiero in 2016, seen as a reliable third to defending Olympic Champion Ki Bo Bae and rising start Choi Misun, but she was the eldest member of the recurve women’s team that extended Korea’s unbeaten run at the Olympics to eight consecutive titles. Following her subsequent individual victory, she posed for Korean Vogue.
For the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, Hye Jin acted as a commentary analyst for Korean network MBC.
The former world number one officially retired in a ceremony held ahead of the Korean national championships on 22 August 2022.
She is a devout Christian.
