Korea, China and Iran led team qualifications


  Qualification was followed by 1/24, 1/16/ and 1/8 individual elimination rounds for recurve W2 men and recurve standing men.   Compound Men W1 Today compound W1 archers shot the last two distances of their qualification round. Leading the ranking Jean Pierre ANTONIOS (FIN) with 1343 points, just two points above David DRAHONINSKY (CZE). Third place for Jeffrey Rhoden FABRY (USA) with 1338 point, shooting the highest score at 30 m distance (352 pts). The elimination wound will take place Saturday, 16 July and the top three archers will gain the Paralympic quota places.   Only three teams will shoot in the team elimination round that will take place Friday, 15 July. Thanks to the good results of their athletes, with 3616 points Czech Republic will go straight to the gold medal match. Its opponent will be the winner of the semifinal between USA and Japan, qualified with 3601 and 3580 points respectively.   Recurve Women W1/W2 After the first distance best score was for Zahra NEMATI (IRI) with 312 points, followed by the gold medallist of the 2010 Asian Paralympic Games KO Hee Sook (KOR) with 310 points and Saana-Maria SINISALO (FIN) with 302 points. Last year NEMATI won the World Ranking Tournament in Nove Mesto (CZE) and the bronze medal in in the Asian Para Games in Guangzhou (CHN). Fourth and eighth place respectively for the bronze and the gold medallists of Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games, XIAO Yanhong (CHN) and Gizem GIRISMEN (TUR).   The situation remained quite unchanged until the end, except for GIRISMEN who climbed two positions during the third distance, going from 8th to 6th. NEMATI always scored the highest results of each distance and ended the qualification with 1298 points. At the end of the competition KO was following NEMATI with 1254 points and XIAO at the third place with 1248 points. Twelveth place for the first of the Italians Elisabetta MIJNO with 1126 points.   Recurve Women Standing KIM Ran Sook (KOR), silver medallist of the Asian Para Games in Guangzhou (CHN), started the competition leading the ranking with 307 points. Second place for the reigning European Para Archery champion Kay LUCAS (GBR) with 301 points. Two points below GAO Fangxia (CHN), silver medallist of Beijing 2008. Fifth place for Razieh SHIR MOHAMMADI (IRI), winner of 2010 Asian Para Games in Guangzhou (CHN).   Nothing changed until the 50 m distance where GAO shot the highest score (319) gaining the first place. KIM and LUCAS became followers with only a 1-point gap between. The performances of the athletes kept the ranking unchanged up to the end. GAO kept the lead until the end while KIM and LUCAS kept their position but finished their qualification round with the same score (1242 pts).   Recurve Women Team Open Friday, 15 July fifteen teams will shoot for the gold in front of the Hunting Residence of Stupinigi (Turin). The best qualified team was Korea with KIM, KO and LEE (3727 pts). Second place for the People’s Republic of China with GAO, XIAO and YAN (3681 pts). Followers the Islamic Republic of Iran and Turkey with 3573 and 3533 points respectively.   Recurve Mixed Team Open The mixed team competition has been introduced as a demonstration in Ulsan in 2009. But this time, for the first time ever, the mixed team title will be awarded. After the qualification round the best qualified mixed team was the People’s Republic of China with DONG Zhi and GAO Fangxia (2557 pts). Second place for the Islamic Republic of IRAN with Zahra NEMATI and Ebrahim RANJBAARKIVAJ (2518) and third place for Great Britain with Paul BROWNE and Kay LUCAS (2504 pts).
