Dan Olaru and Alexandra Mirca were named by their National Olympic Committee to carry the Moldovan flag at the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on 26 July.

It’s the second edition of the event to feature two flagbearers from each country in the parade.

The two were already flagbearers at the Tokyo Olympics, and Olaru carried the nation’s flag at London 2012 when he was only 15 years old, being the youngest member of the team.

The Moldovan delegation in Paris will consist of 26 athletes in seven sports.

Olaru made history winning the first stage of the 2023 Hyundai Archery World Cup in Antalya at his first appearance in a circuit’s final.

The 27-year-old was the first Moldovan athlete to qualify for the 2024 Olympics when he finished fourth at the European Games in June 2023.

Mirca qualified a women’s quota place with a top-eight finish at the final world qualifier in Antalya in June this year.

The two archers will participate in the individual and mixed team events in Paris.

The archery competition at the Olympics starts on 25 July.
