Games debutant Baptiste Addis appears as the youngest male athlete in the host delegation for the Paris 2024 Olympics on the official list published by the National Olympic Committee on 9 July.

France has 571 athletes including six archers for near gender parity with 49.4% women and 50.6% men in 32 sports and 45 disciplines.

Addis is the youngest of the men’s competitions at 17, while the youngest overall is a 14-year-old female skateboarder. The oldest French Olympian this year is a 48-year-old man in equestrian sports.

“I found out yesterday too, and it’s an honour for me and adds even more emotion to what’s already going to be a great event,” said Baptiste. “It also reminds me how lucky I am to be taking part at such a young age.”

Ranked 17th in the Sanlida Archery World Ranking on 8 July – a career best – it bodes well for him when the archery competitions starts at the Esplanade des Invalides.

“I’m going to give it everything I’ve got to shine as brightly as possible at home with this great delegation that is the French team!”

France claimed the men’s and women’s team European titles in Essen in May ahead of their home Olympics.

As host, the country has a full quota of three men and three women for the archery events in Paris.

Addis was named in the recurve men’s team alongside Thomas Chirault and Jean-Charles Valladont following the third stage of the Hyundai Archery World Cup in Antalya in June where the trio claimed silver.

The female roster comprises Lisa Barbelin, Amélie Cordeau and Caroline Lopez.

A European Youth Cup winner, and a European and World championships bronze medallist in the under-18 division, Baptiste made his first appearance on the Hyundai Archery World Cup circuit in August 2022 for his home stage in Paris at the age of 15.

He was named into the international senior squad for 2023, and successfully confirmed for the Olympic season in 2024.

Archery at the 2024 Olympics starts with qualifying on 25 July.
