Universality invitations bring Paralympic quotas to a record 47 participating nations

Senegal’s Aliou Drame is compound men’s open 2023 African Champion.

The qualification process is now complete for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games as 11 universality invitations have been issued and all quota places for the para archery competitions on the Esplanade des Invalides this summer have been allocated.

A record 47 nations have qualified, representing all five continents.

Thirty-eight National Paralympic Committees won spots through the qualifying process that ended with the final qualifier in Dubai in March.

Thirteen quota places across five of the six competition categories were on offer as invitational tickets – designed to increase the universality of participation – and 11 were awarded, as only one eligible W1 woman reached the minimum standard.

Jahan Musayev (Azerbaijan), Al Amin Hossain (Bangladesh), Juan Diego Blas and Juliana Ferreira da Silva (Brazil), Leydis Posada (Cuba), Diana Gonzabay Guaman (Ecuador), Dorothea Poimenidou (Greece), Ngai Ka Chuen (Hong Kong China), Kerrie Leonard (Ireland), Agustina Bantiloc (Philippines), Aliou Drame (Senegal) have been selected to fill the universality invites in Paris, adding nine new countries to the entry list.

Everyone who competes at the Games must hit a minimum standard, which is a single qualifying score depending on competition classification and gender.

The para archery quota list of 138 archers from 47 countries for Paris is now complete.

Competition at the 2024 Paralympic Games start with qualifying on 29 August.
