Six archers picked to French compound squad for European Championships
Three compound men and three compound women have been selected to represent France at the European Outdoor Championships in Essen in May, after the national championships in Riom last weekend served as trials to name the squad.
The roster includes some surprises, with three of the six archers making their international debuts in Germany.
Candice Cadronet and Alyssia Chambraud will count on the experience of their elder teammate Sophie Dodémont for their first time at this level.
The two 20-year-olds sealed their spots finishing first and second in the women’s ranking ahead of Dodemont.
“I’m happy to be going with teammates, especially younger, it will be great,” said Dodémont, who will compete in her 11th Europeans.
“They are the future and I’m happy to be there with them for their first senior European Championship. They are full of desire and will, I think it will be a good championship.”
The tireless 50-year-old is the reigning European silver medallist from Munich 2022 and enters her seventh international compound season in 2024 with still high ambitions. (The former Olympic medallist previously shot a recurve bow.)
The 19-year-old François Dubois upset the men’s field ahead of Quentin Baraër and Victor Bouleau, second and third respectively.
Bouleau is set to compete at the season’s opening next week in Shanghai alongside Adrien Gontier, Jean-Philippe Boulch and Nicolas Girard.
The compound squad for the first stage of the Hyundai Archery World Cup was announced in March.
