Noziglia completes historic triple with world field win in Yankton

Noziglia celebrates winning the world field championships in 2022.

Italian barebow archer Cinzia Noziglia has completed a first for the sport, winning the World Games, World Archery 3D Championships and World Archery Field Championships in the same year.

The latter came today in Yankton when she dominated France’s Christine Gauthe in the final, 58-44.

“It’s amazing. I don’t understand what happened today. I don’t know what to say. Everything is beautiful,” said Noziglia.

“It’s my first gold medal in field, the team was the first this is the second. I won the 3D, I won in World Games, but this is the first field gold. It’s unbelievable.”

Noziglia also topped the podium in the women’s team event and was runner-up in the barebow mixed team event in Yankton.

The three major tournaments on the barebow calendar are not usually held in the same year but the World Games and World Archery 3D Championships were delayed one year due to the pandemic.

Noziglia has been in a class of her own throughout this season.

The 37-year-old seeded top at each of the competitions before winning back-to-back matches – semifinal and final – to remain entirely unbeaten in 2022.

This week’s performance might have been her best yet.

On Wednesday, she sat 48 points clear of her nearest competitor on the leaderboard at the end of qualifying. And this Sunday morning, she raised her arms to the air to celebrate a second world title and third major crown of the year.

“Probably I was in a flow. I don’t know how many points I shot but I think I shot very good,” said Noziglia.

“I maintained my mind and my shooting form. I didn't think about it being a gold medal final so everything just ran well.”

Competition concludes this afternoon in Yankton.
