World number ones to meet in mixed teams final at the 2022 World Games

The Netherlands compound mixed team at the 2022 World Games

The first medallists of the 2022 World Games in archery were known already on Friday evening as the semifinals of the compound mixed team were held straight after the individual elimination rounds.

Colombia and the Netherlands will meet in the final on Saturday afternoon.

Two legends and two current number ones of the world rankings will appear in that clash with Sara Lopez and her partner Daniel Munoz shooting against Mike Schloesser and his partner, Jody Beckers.

Colombia defeated India 1159-157 India, while the Netherlands won a close match against Mexico (157-156).

For Schloesser, advancing to the final was  consolation after he was defeated in the quarterfinals of the individual competition.

“I could not be disappointed too long because the match was straight after that. It will be awesome to shoot for the gold with my teammate. We do really great and I am very happy about that,” he said.

Lopez can still reach a gold individually but the mixed team final is what she focuses on.

“That was the main goal. I was not aiming for anything individually,” said Lopez clearly.

“I knew how powerful our mixed team was when won the World Championships and won in Turkey. I knew we had a great chance to be in the final and that was my main focus; to go to the final with Daniel.”

Abhishek Verma and Jyothi Surekha Vennam might won the first ever archery-medal at the World Games for India. Unless Verma does it himself earlier on Saturday, when the men’s final four happens.

“I am very excited and looking forward to the bronze medal match. We just want to focus on our shooting and do our best,” Vennam said.

India will shoot against Mexico’s Andrea Becerra and Miguel Becerra

Competition at the World Games 2022 continues on Saturday with the compound individual final fours and medal matches in the morning and compound mixed team medal matches in the afternoon.
