Archers from Mexico and the USA dominated World Archery Americas’ Athlete of the Year awards for 2021, which were announced on Friday.

Out of a total of 20 awards, the two archery powerhouses took home seven each, with Brazil and Colombia adding two apiece. Chile and the US Virgin Islands won the remaining two.

The USA took three of the four awards available in the international competition categories as Colombian world number one, World Archery Champion and six-time Hyundai Archery World Cup Champion Sara Lopez prevented a clean sweep, following wins for Jack Williams, Mackenzie Brown and Braden Gellenthien.

Colombia’s Heber Mantilla, Sara’s personal trainer, was also named coach of the year.

Seven of the 20 award categories were for para archery, with five of the winners set to appear at the World Archery Para Championships, set to get underway in Dubai tomorrow.

The awards will be presented at different events during the 2022 season, starting in March in Puerto Rico during the world ranking event there.

The full list of winners is available on the World Archery Americas website.
