Noziglia breaks continental record at barebow’s first European indoor

Cinzia Noziglia shoots during qualifying at the European indoor.

Italian barebow archer Cinzia Noziglia shot 541 points to break the 60-arrow 18-metre round European record by two during qualification today at the continental indoor championships in Lasko, Slovenia.

The event is the first European international in the discipline of target archery to include competitions for barebow archers.

“It’s unexpected, so I’m very happy, [but] the competition has just started. I’m satisfied today but I will try to shoot my best until Saturday,” said Noziglia, who is the reigning back-to-back European champion in the discipline of field archery.

“I’m very excited for this first time, and I’m proud to be here. I think it’s a historical event for the barebow world.”

Cinzia, who also recently appeared on Italia’s Got Talent, was two points shy of the current world record of 543, held by the USA’s Claire Xie.

British 15-year-old Ollie Hicks led barebow men’s qualifying with 553 and 21 10s, two more 10s than Swedish sensation Leo Pettersson, 18, who shot the same score.

Mauro Nespoli (594), Polina Rodionova (585), Mike Schloesser (599) and Elizaveta Knyazeva (592) took the remaining top seeds.

Competition continues at these European indoor championships with individual elimination matches on Wednesday and runs through to individual finals on Saturday.
