The former chair of the board of Archery GB, Dave Harrison, died peacefully in his sleep on Monday 3 January 2022.

A long-time contributor to the sport, Dave helped set up a local club, the Bowmen of Walker, in the 1970s. He went on to become a national judge and active coach and regional organiser.

He joined the board of Archery GB in 2009 and was made its chair in 2010, serving in the position during the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Dave remained exceptionally active as a volunteer, known for his perseverant positive attitude and goodwill, and was particularly supportive of youth programmes and the delivery of national and international events held in Britain.

He was awarded a gold plaquette by Archery GB for his services to the sport in 2018.

World Archery secretary general Tom Dielen offered his condolences: “Dave was, for me, the epitome of a great volunteer in archery. He was always ready to help and he played a key role in welcoming the world during the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics. Dave, archery will miss you and especially your eternal smile.”
