Archery named on initial programme for LA28 Olympic Games
Archery is on the list of the initial 28 sports proposed by the International Olympic Committee’s executive board for inclusion at the LA28 Olympic Games.
The specific disciplines, events and athlete quota for all sports will not be decided until late 2024.
Archery has featured at every modern Olympic Games since 1972, when it returned to the programme after a 52-year hiatus, achieving the goal for which World Archery was initially created.
The sport’s inclusion on the programme of future Olympics is not a foregone conclusion.
Archery is evaluated after each edition of the Games against indicators including popularity, relevance to youth, integrity and sustainability.
During Tokyo 2020, the sport’s audience figures, social media engagement and youth interest all measured particularly highly.
