Archery confirmed for preliminary programme of 2023 European Games
Archery is one of the 23 sports included on the preliminary programme for the third consecutive European Games, due to be held in Krakow-Malopolska, Poland, in 2023. The announcement was made following a meeting with the European Olympic Committees in Rome.
The European Games were launched in Baku in 2015. Archery featured, with a format mirroring that of the Olympic Games and including only recurve archers.
For the second edition, held in Minsk in 2019, a compound competition was added.
As this announcement is for a preliminary programme, the format – and number of competition events – for the 2023 European Games has not yet been decided.
Poland has hosted several international archery competitions over the past decade, including the European Championships in 2018, a stage of the Hyundai Archery World Cup from 2013 to 2015 and the World Archery Youth Championships in 2011.
Last year’s European Games in Minsk acted as a qualification tournament for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
