Bangladesh wins all 10 titles at 2019 South Asian Games in Nepal

Ruman Shana, Ety Khatun, Sohel Rana and Biswas Suma took the individual titles as Bangladesh won all 10 gold medals at the 2019 South Asian Games in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Sixty athletes from five countries participated in the archery events at the Games.

Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal all had full 16-athlete teams. Bhutan sent eight archers and Pakistan had four.

India, which traditionally does well at this event, was unable to compete due to the ongoing suspension of the Archery Association of India.

Shana shot a career-high 686 points for the 72-arrow 70-metre ranking round in Kathmandu. He defeated Bhutan’s Kinley Tshering, 7-1, in the recurve men’s final.

The world number 10 made history earlier in 2019 by becoming the first Bangladeshi archer to qualify a place to the Olympic Games and to win a medal at the World Archery Championships.

Bangladesh finished with 10 gold medals and one bronze. Bhutan finished second in the medal table at these South Asian Games with five silver and three bronze.

Sri Lanka and Nepal also climbed the podium.

The archery competitions at the 2019 South Asian Games took place on 5-9 December in Kathmandu, Nepal.
