Casey Kaufhold’s 675-point ranking round ratified as junior world record

Casey Kaufhold’s score of 675 out of a possible 720 points for the 72-arrow 70-metre ranking round has been officially ratified as a new recurve junior women’s world record. Kaufhold, 15, shot the score on 8 September 2019 in Annville, USA.

She is the first archer from outside of Korea to hold the record.

“The ranking round is just as important as the rest of the competition because you can get either a good spot or a bad spot in the bracket. There is almost never a point in between,” said Casey. “The higher you rank, the likeliness of having a better bracket is higher. Qualifying high is definitely always a goal of mine.”

This past season has been Kaufhold’s first as a member of the USA senior team.

She picked up her first Hyundai Archery World Cup podium, a silver medal in the mixed team event in Medellin, and finished third individually at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima.

As well as the 72-arrow world record, Kaufhold also recently broke the recurve junior women’s 144-arrow 70-metre record. She shot 1314 out of a possible 1440 points at the US nationals.

Five more double qualification records were set at the same tournament.

• Toja Ellison, compound women – 1412 points
• Linda Klosterman, compound master women – 1350 points
• Brady Ellison, recurve men – 1351 points
• Timothy Palumbo, recurve men open – 1246 points
• Jason Tabansky, W1 men – 1224 points

Ella Gibson and Anders Faugstad also recently broke 1440-arrow 50-metre records, scoring 1406 and 1416 points, in the compound junior categories.

Other records set over the past two months include compound cadet man Matthew Russell’s 355-point 50-metre round; Matteo Panariello breaking the visually impaired 1 mark for the 72-arrow 30-metre round with 452; and Els van den Broeck’s three new recurve master women’s records.

Els shot a new high of 1341 points for the 1440 Round, with record scores of 339 for 60 and 337 for 50 metres.
