Leotas win Fiji two golds and three medals at Pacific Games in Samoa

Fiji’s Fred and Lisa Leota collected three medals, including two golds, at the 2019 Pacific Games in Apia, Samoa.

The married couple won the compound mixed team title, beating New Caledonia in the final, 143-141. Fred took compound men’s gold after a shoot-off and Lisa finished second to Cecile Picot in the compound women’s competition.

“It’s pretty special to shoot in front of my family and friends,” said Fred. “I’m quite surprised at how far I’ve gotten, to be honest.”

“It’s just more special to shoot alongside my better half. Just makes the whole experience worthwhile.”

The 34-year-old was actually born in Samoa but is now a Fijian citizen.

Tahiti’s Jean-Pierre Winkelstoeter won recurve men’s gold and Isabelle Dussol of New Caledonia won the recurve women’s event.

Host country Samoa, represented by Muaasua and Jil Walter, took the recurve mixed team gold medal after defeating Tonga’s Hans Jensen and Mele Tuuakitau.

The archery competition at the 2019 Pacific Games took place on 8-12 July in Apia, Samoa.
