Fourteen-year-old Casey Kaufhold sets cadet world record at GT Open
The USA’s Casey Kaufhold, 14, scored 589 out of a possible 600 points during the first qualification session at the GT Open, the first tournament on the 2019 Indoor Archery World Series calendar, to set a new recurve cadet women’s world record.
She beat the previous mark, set by Italy’s Tatiana Andreoli in early 2016, by a point.
“It feels really good because I knew I could do it in practice so it feels great to transfer it over to competition, any competition, but this big competition especially,” said Kaufhold, who is competing at her first senior international event in Luxembourg.
“I feel ready [to compete on the senior stage], I feel mature enough, and I can handle the pressure and shoot well under these circumstances.”
At the end of the first day at the GT Open, Kaufhold’s score led the recurve field.
A further two sessions of qualifying take place on Saturday 24 November, followed by the first round of matchplay. The remainder of the eliminations and then finals take place on Sunday 25 November and will be live streamed on World Archery platforms.
