Maria Emma Gaviria re-elected World Archery Americas President until 2022

Colombia’s Maria Emma Gaviria was re-elected as president of World Archery Americas for a four-year term running from 2018 until 2020 during the continental federation’s general assembly, held during the 2018 Pan Am and Para Pan Am Championships in Medellin, Colombia.

Maria Emma received 25 supporting votes.

“During the past four years we have worked hard to make archery bigger in our continent, and for this I thank all national federations for their ongoing trust and support,” she said.

“We had 45 delegates from 27 countries at the General Assembly, with the British Virgin Islands and Guyana taking part for the first time. It’s a big step forward and we will continue to work non-stop for archery across the continent.”

Cuba’s Sergio Font and Colombia’s Ana Maria Lopez were re-assigned the positions of secretary general and treasure.

Among other elections were Alba Santos from Ecuador being appointed vice president for South America, and Kevin D’Amour and Jose Miguel Robiou joining the executive board. 

Archers competing at the championships in Medellin appointed Mexican Olympic silver medallist Aida Roman, USA para archer Martha Chavez and El Salvador’s Roberto Hernandez to the World Archery Americas athletes’ committee.

The 2020 Pan American Championships and continental qualification tournament for Tokyo 2020 were awarded to Mexico City.

The World Archery Americas general assembly took place on 18 August in Medellin, Colombia.
