Madrid wins bid to host 2019 World Archery Youth Championships
World Archery’s executive board awarded Madrid in Spain the right to host the 2019 World Archery Youth Championships during its meeting on 16-17 July ahead of the fourth stage of the 2018 Hyundai Archery World Cup.
Madrid beat a bid from Taipei City to the appointment.
The board also approved a number of bylaws, including the introduction of official world records for mixed team ranking rounds.
“Following the addition of a fifth medal event, the mixed team, to the Olympic Games in Tokyo, it is our responsibility to provide as much context for the competition to the media and public as we can,” said World Archery President Prof Dr Ugur Erdener.
“A strong new anti-harassment and anti-abuse policy and another regarding team officials, both approved by the board at this meeting, solidify the structure of our events and will ensure that archery remains a sport rooted in fair play and one that is safe for athletes.”
Other bylaws added include a requirement for undershirts to be consistent with team uniforms for finals, coming into effect in 2019, and clarifications to recent changes in the field rules.
The board approved a bid from Cairo in Egypt to join the Indoor Archery World Series calendar from the 2019/20 season. Cairo submitted a bid within the initial timeframe.
An expected stage of the new circuit in Mexico did not submit the required documentation in time for inclusion in the upcoming indoor season.
In addition to the normal board members, Archery Trade Association President Matt Kormann attended the meeting to present on his organisation’s cooperation with World Archery. The board and Kormann reaffirmed a commitment to working together, particular in the fight against counterfeiting.
The board also received a report on the progress of Tokyo 2020, including the positive progress and approval of schedules for both Olympic and Paralympic Games, and the final version of the ongoing member association governance report.
Learnings accrued from the responses to the governance questions from all of World Archery’s member associations will be formed into activity requirements that will also form part of World Archery’s future strategic plan.
The executive board is a body of elected officials that governs World Archery between meetings of congress.
