France wins compound mixed team title in Utah

France’s Sophie Dodemont and reigning World Archery Champion Sebastien Peineau beat a compound mixed team from Russia, 153-149, to take gold at stage three of the 2018 Hyundai Archery World Cup in Salt Lake City, USA.

“It was tricky and really, really windy today and all week. I shot a lot of nines, some 10s but Sophie shot a lot of 10s, way better than me, but as said earlier this week, even if I shoot more nines, if we still win, I’m happy,” said Peineau.

“I still don’t know how we put all of our arrows in the yellow, but it happened and we won.”

The French pair didn’t drop more than two points in a single end, opening with 39 out of a possible 40 – matched by Natalia Avdeeva and Anton Bulaev – and following up with three 38s.

Their Russian opponents were always on the back foot, doing the best to limit the advantage, but eventually running out of arrows with a four point deficit.

France took gold, 153-149.

India beat the USA in the compound mixed team bronze medal match, 147-140, after the hosts faltered at the last, posting a six and a seven to finish.

The third stage of the Hyundai Archery World Cup takes place in Salt Lake City, USA on 18-24 June.
